He kept his true nature hidden, despite turning a number of members of government, but in 1444 DR, [[Naja Bellandi]] discovered his true nature, triggering the [[Night of the Red Coup]]. Klav Ikaia and his vampires were destroyed two weeks later when the Companion was summoned over Elturel.

In truth, Ikaia and his few living Sons and Daughters who weren't immediately obliterated by the Companion delved deep beneath the earth into the Maze, surviving in the tunnels beneath Elturel and occasionally causing prisoners sentenced to the tunnels to disappear. In their time below they learned how to navigate better than anyone else, who at most used the various sections of the Maze for warehousing.
