Night of the Red Coup

The Red Coup is the combined name for the events from the Night of the Red Coup and the two weeks afterwards.

The Night of the Red Coup

This was the night when Naja Bellandi discovered that Klav Ikaia had been turned into a vampire by a feral vampire he and the Hellriders had been sent to destroy. He had also turned a number of government members, and after chasing Naja Bellandi out of the High Hall, through the Garden, and over the drop of Maiden's Leap, they swept through the rest of government.

Two weeks to follow

Many of the Hellriders were betrayed, turned, or destroyed in a vampiric frenzy. Many temples fell before them; Helm's Shieldhall was turned into an abattoir, and the High Harvest Hall was scoured so thoroughly that worship of Chauntea is still essentially gone in Elturel.

Naja Bellandi, having dragged herself out of the canal below the Maiden's Leap, led a guerrilla campaign against the vampires for two weeks until her fervent prayer summoned the Companion, which wiped out the vampires and their spawn and led to her being named the city's first High Observer.
